2015 Assen MotoGp: Valentino Rossi Wins, Marc Marquez second and Jeorge Lorenzo third.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Valentino Rossi completed a perfect weekend at the TT Assen with an impeccable victory, the 111th in his career and his third of the 2015 season. Teammate Jorge Lorenzo also did a superb job at the overcast but dry track, coming from eighth on the grid, to take Yamaha to its fifth double podium of the season.

Valentino Rossi kicked off the Dutch Grand Prix from pole with a dream start to take the holeshot. He held a 0,426 advantage to Marc Marquez after the first lap. The Doctor tried to break away from his encroaching rival and the rapidly approaching Lorenzo and responded by dipping under the previous lap record, but was unable to shake his pursuers off.

Sentinel-2A Liftoff - ESA Copernicus Programme : Space Launch

Space launch: replay of the Sentinel-2A liftoff on a Vega launcher from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana at 01,52 GMT (03,52 CEST) on 23 June 2015.

Sentinel-2A is the second satellite to be launched for Europe’s Copernicus environment monitoring programme.

Designed as a two-satellite constellation – Sentinel-2A and -2B – the Sentinel-2 mission carries an innovative wide swath high-resolution multispectral imager with 13 spectral bands for a new perspective of our land and vegetation. This information will be used for agricultural and forestry practices and for helping manage food security. It will also provide information on pollution in lakes and coastal waters. Images of floods, volcanic eruptions and landslides contribute to disaster mapping and help humanitarian relief efforts.

President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Shooting in South Carolina at Charleston Church.

Last night, a gunman opened fire at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, killing nine people including pastor and state senator Clementa Pinckney. The Department of Justice is opening a hate crime investigation into this tragedy.



The President delivered the following statement from the White House Briefing Room:



U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch also addressed the shooting this morning: "This is a crime that has reached into the heart of that community. The Department of justice has opened a hate crime investigation into this shooting incident."



"My thoughts and prayers, and those of our entire law enforcement community here at the Department of Justice and around the country are with the families and loved ones of the victims in Charleston," she added. "Even as we struggle to comprehend this heartbreaking event, I want everyone in Charleston and everyone who has been affected by this tragedy to know that we will do everything in our power to help heal this community and make it whole again."



Good afternoon, everybody. This morning, I spoke with, and Vice President Biden spoke with, Mayor Joe Riley and other leaders of Charleston to express our deep sorrow over the senseless murders that took place last night.



Michelle and I know several members of Emanuel AME Church.  We knew their pastor, Reverend Clementa Pinckney, who, along with eight others, gathered in prayer and fellowship and was murdered last night. And to say our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, and their community doesn’t say enough to convey the heartache and the sadness and the anger that we feel.

Magna Carta, also called Magna Carta Libertatum (Latin for "the Great Charter of the Liberties"), is a charter agreed by King John of England at Runnymede, near Windsor, on 15 June 1215.

First drafted by the Archbishop of Canterbury to make peace between the unpopular King and a group of rebel barons, it promised the protection of church rights, protection for the barons from illegal imprisonment, access to swift justice, and limitations on feudal payments to the Crown, to be implemented through a council of 25 barons. 

Neither side stood behind their commitments, and the charter was annulled by Pope Innocent III, leading to the First Barons' War. After John's death, the regency government of his young son, Henry III, reissued the document in 1216, stripped of some of its more radical content, in an unsuccessful bid to build political support for their cause.

At the end of the war in 1217, it formed part of the peace treaty agreed at Lambeth, where the document acquired the name Magna Carta, to distinguish it from the smaller Charter of the Forest which was issued at the same time. 

Short of funds, Henry reissued the charter again in 1225 in exchange for a grant of new taxes; his son, Edward I, repeated the exercise in 1297, this time confirming it as part of England's statute law.

Las Vegas Ice Dream Truck Takes Over Times Square With Help From Model Hannah Davis and Star Chef Ralph Scamardella.

Las Vegas brought the magic of Vegas Season to New York City today with a lively pop-up experience in the middle of Times Square. Crowds of onlookers were greeted by the equally vibrant and bubbly model Hannah Davis with specially-created alcohol-infused ice cream treats. Iraq War Against Islamic State News - The White House Strategy

News about the Iraq War against the Islamic State: The White House says there are no immediate plans to open up more bases in Iraq. The remarks come a day after President Obama authorized 450 additional troops to a fifth Iraqi base to assist local forces in the fight against the Islamic State militant group in Anbar province.



Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, told reporters Thursday that U.S. troops stationed at al-Taqqadam Air Base in Anbar could be a model for additional hubs in Iraq, where American military personnel train, assist and advise Iraqi forces.



When asked about additional bases, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Thursday there are no “immediate or specific plans” to add U.S. troops to Iraq, and that Dempsey’s comments simply reflect his role in long-term and contingency planning.



The spokesman noted that if President Obama’s military advisers did recommend opening another facility, it would reflect the fact that ongoing training efforts of Iraqi forces have been “useful.”



“Rather than being evidence of mission creep, it would be evidence of some progress in the ongoing mission to support the Iraqis as they take the fight to ISIL on the ground in their own country,” said Earnest.



Earnest responded to broader concerns of mission creep by noting the stark difference of the U.S. military presence in Iraq when President Obama took office in 2009 compared to the current mission in that country.



“There is a significant difference between 150,000 troops in a combat role and 3,500 U.S. troops in roles... not in a combat role...in a variety of roles,” said Earnest.



The 3,500 U.S. military personnel in Iraq include the 450 troops going to Anbar to train, advise, and assist Iraqi forces, particularly Sunni tribal fighters, in the fight to retake the provincial capital Ramadi from Islamic State militants.



Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Michael O’Hanlon says sending additional U.S. forces to Iraq is a good move, but not enough.



“Overall, I’m a little concerned about the Obama administration’s incrementalist approach, which I think concedes too much initiative to the enemy and also is somewhat too leisurely and slow,” said O’Hanlon.



Criticism echoed by others as the president struggles with a fight that he himself concedes is not a “short term proposition.”
